THE ARTIST BEHIND THE ARCHIVE

John Dobbie

From constructed worlds to impossible anatomies.

John Dobbie is a Canadian-born visual artist and art director whose work moves between constructed worlds, anatomical systems, and the unstable space where the organic becomes architectural.

A graduate of Sheridan College’s Classical Animation program, Dobbie began his career as a digital environment artist before moving into art direction. Across more than twenty years in videogames, he has helped build worlds for landmark franchises including Call of Duty, Tony Hawk, and God of War. That history—of designing places, surfaces, atmospheres, and visual systems—runs beneath AINATOMIES.

Alongside his game work, Dobbie developed an independent studio practice centered on abstract screenprinting. His prints have appeared in juried and group exhibitions across the United States, including Abstract National at Mark Arts, PrintAustin’s Contemporary Print, the National Print Exhibition at Artlink, the Mohawk Hudson Regional, and international juried print exhibitions.

AINATOMIES extends that practice into an evolving archive of more than one thousand manifestations. Each work suggests an artifact, organism, machine, or relic without settling into any one identity. The project’s first collected volume brings that expanding anatomy into physical form.

Dobbie lives and works in New York’s Capital Region.
